I finally took the plunge and joined The Fit Girl Gang workout program, and I’m never looking back! I’ve never been one to develop and stick to my own at home workout program. I’ve always gone to classes like OrangeTheory or Spin when I want to …
Self development in university is one of the most important things you’ll get out of the whole experience. It’s a time when you grow, change, and really find yourself. But sometimes it can be so difficult figuring out just how to do this. With my graduation coming …
It’s the first day of SPRING!!!! Can you believe it? 5 months of cold weather for this girl and Brains and Bronzed is an absolute 0 on the Bronzed scale! Lucky for us, it can only go up (in degrees) from here right?
I spent my Saturday afternoon at a greenhouse (sounds weird but seriously, SO worth the time spent!), and feeling the sunshine’s warmth beat down on me was a total tease… I spent the rest of the afternoon feeling like I should have been sangria sipping on a patio on a hot summer day meanwhile its still only 0°C.
Regardless, it’s officially spring AKA time for a spring refresh/spring cleaning/waking up from hibernation/etc! I’ve rounded up the top 5 things I’ll be doing to re-energize myself in preparation for my favourite time of year!
1. CLEAN YOUR CLOSET
Let’s be real, this is something that I do every season, not just in the spring. But there’s something SO refreshing about dumping out your wardrobe and getting rid of the stuff that you no longer wear to make room for new summer wear! How to know whether it’s worth keeping? If you haven’t worn something all winter, and don’t remember if you wore it or not last summer, you very likely won’t be wearing it this summer! These are the pieces that I either
a. give to a friend
b. take to stores such as Plato’s Closetthat will purchase your gently used, on trend clothing
c. donate to Goodwill or another charity!
Putting your no longer being worn clothes to some other good use rather than stuffed in a drawer or the back of your closet makes it much more acceptable to buy those new spring/summer pieces! Check out my last postherefor my not so secret tips to save/make money shopping!
2. GET OUT & ABOUT
If you’re like me, you’ve probably been cooped up a little more than you should have been this winter, so there’s no better time than now to start getting back into summer gear and start exploring your city again! Whether it’s that park you’ve been meaning to visit, that workout class you’ve wanted to sign up for, or that coffee shop that’s been on your list for a while, make use of your days off and start doing the things that make you happy! This is exactly how I ended up at Shelmerdine Garden Centrethis weekend, a greenhouse where I stocked up on plants and pots and enjoyed a latte at their sweet little greenhouse cafe!
3. DETOX
Right after the holidays I did a 5 day sugar free, dairy free & gluten free detox and it left me feeling OH SO GOOD. I promised myself I’d do it every 4 months, meaning my next one is due right in time for spring! Whether it’s a juice cleanse, or a technology detox, cleanse your body or your soul with a couple days or weeks without the things that you know aren’t good for you! Not only will you feel better physically and mentally once you finish the detox, you’ll feel like you accomplished something and there’s nothing better than feeling accomplished and productive when you’re trying to refresh.
4. PAMPER YOURSELF
Whether it’s with a spa treatment, a day at Thermea, or a spa day at home – treat yourself! My spring pampering consists of a facial from Riverstone Spa with extractions to rid my skin of all the dryness and dullness winter left me with. If you’re not looking to make such a big expenditure on your spring pampering, grab a friend and head to Thermea for a day of thermotherapy and relaxation, or have your own spa day at home with just a couple of your favourite face masks and scrubs. Best part about spa-ing it at home? Bottomless mimosas!!!
5. PLAN YOUR SUMMER BUCKET LIST
It never fails that I have a million things I want to see or do while the weather’s nice that I end up forgetting about once summer hits. For this reason, I’ve started making a bucket list early on in the spring with all the things I plan to check off while the weather allows it. From things I want to do, events I want to check out, places I want to visit, and personal goals I want to achieve, set them in stone by writing them out and you’ll be much more likely to follow through with them when you can look back and see them on paper!
These are just a couple easy ways I’ll be resetting & refreshing over the next couple weeks! Do you have any must-do rituals for the change of season?
Birthdays always get me feelin’ SO nostalgic, and this year even a little more so. Over the past couple years, I feel like grown so much and have really begun to discover and understand myself. Key word: begun. I think that throughout our lives, we …
New Year, New Me? More like New Year, Improved Me! It’s the same thing every year. A new year arrives and we promise ourself we’re going to be better. This year, I’ll stop eating so many carbs. I’ll quit drinking every weekend. I’ll stop procrastinating …
