3 Ideas for Personal Development and Well-Being in Quarantine
Fall (and quarantine) is officially here and while I’m admittedly a bit nervous as to what the next 6 months of cold weather, no vacations and limited social events will bring… I’m also excited for a change of pace! I love the fun, spontaneity of summer but I also crave some routine and growth. I’m all about doing things for our personal development and well-being, so I wanted to share 3 ideas you can do for just that this fall!
I recently read something about how our bodies and souls need the quiet, calming phase of fall/winter to unwind from the busyness and excitement of summer. We need the time to rest and recharge while connecting more with ourselves, learning and growing before spring. This got me right in the feels, and as a self-proclaimed Summer Junkie, I actually couldn’t agree more.
Fall feels like a time for growth and change, and I think while this year more than ever has been that in and of itself, I’m actually looking forward to spending a little more time on ME. With this comes a few things I’ll be doing this fall that I hope will inspire you to do some things for yourself as well!
1. Register for a Course.
Whether it’s related to your career, a skill you want to learn/improve on, a topic you want to become more educated on, or something totally random that is of interest to you, SIGN UP! I find fall often leads to more time indoors, and rather than spend that time on another Netflix Series, it’s the perfect time to invest in yourself through learning.
A few course ideas…
- “Indigenous Canada” from University of Alberta (free!)
- “The Science of Well-Being” from Yale University (free!)
- The Bundle Package of 30+ Courses covering everything from entrepreneurship to wellness to influencing + more. This is what I’m currently taking! I have few courses currently in the works…
2. Tweak Your Wellness Routine.
By wellness I mean fitness, self-care, health and everything else! Summer often throws me off the rails in terms of my workout and eating habits, but it’s time to hit refresh in the fall and get back into routine. I’m taking a look at how I’ve been working out over the past 6-9 months and setting up a plan for how I can keep myself active in a realistic way. Although gyms may be shut down, and I won’t be going to my favourite bootcamps for the time being, setting up achievable schedule of 3-4 at home workouts is reasonable for me! I’ve also started drinking 1 gallon of water each day! More on the benefits and results on this to come soon in another blog post…
3. Create a New Ritual.
This fall, I want to try something new and get out of my comfort zone. I’ve decided to start journaling. My thoughts, aspirations, manifestations, feelings and more. While my blog has always been a form of journalling for me, I want to get really real with myself by diving into my own thoughts and start reflecting more than I currently am. I had wished I journaled throughout the worst of COVID (March-May) but I’m realizing now that it’s never too late to start. Whether you want to start journaling yourself, or if it’s trying meditation, yoga, running, reading, or whatever else it may be; set some intention and try something NEW!
Something I’ve been loving lately is the idea of incorporating things/routines/habits your life, not taking things away. These are the perfect additions to start the new season strong!
