I think it’s safe to say 2020, you will not be missed! This year has been anything but what we expected as we rang in the new year on December 31, 2019 with high hopes for the start of a new decade. While it hasn’t been many of our best years, it’s definitely been one to remember. As we get ready for another “fresh start” — if that’s what we can call 2021… I’m remembering the year with fond, (albeit somewhat low-key) memories and a new outlook on what’s really important in life.
For the past 3 years, I’ve shared with you my New Year’s Resolutions (see blog posts for 2018, 2019, 2020), but this time around I wanted to first look back before looking forward and share some things I’ve learned this year.
1. The best thing you can own is experiences.
2. You don’t get what you want without asking for it.
3. Health should never be taken for granted.
4. #BlackLivesMatter
5. We should all take walks more often.
6. Always wear SPF. Even when you don’t think you need it.
7. You can earn more money but you can’t earn back time.
8. Support local whenever you can.
9. One of life’s greatest gifts is seeing a baby learn and grow.
10. Don’t run away from bears.
11. Don’t underestimate or underprice your value.
12. A 15 minute workout is better than no workout.
13. Cherish time with loved ones, you won’t have them forever.
14. Community is everything.
15. It’s okay to say no when something doesn’t serve you.
16. Everything is better in the summer.
17. Matching sweatsuits are and will always be a wardrobe essential.
18. You can do hard, scary, big things. Just work at them.
19. Never stop learning or reading.
20. The importance of giving back to those less fortunate than yourself.
21. Travel and exploring is a privilege.
We’ve all learned a lot this year. As I move forward into 2021, I’ll take these lessons with me and improve on them as I grow into new experiences, memories, lessons. Whatever 2021 brings, let’s face it and embrace it in the best way possible, whatever that ends up looking like.
